Mabel Laird earned her B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Maine and M.Div from Regent University in Virginia. Between those, she enlisted in the Navy and served eight years on active duty (and four in the Navy Reserves), stationed in Japan and then Guam. While serving, she heard her call to ministry, specifically (at first!) chaplaincy. Her last station was in Virginia Beach, where she met and fell in love with her husband Alex. They were married a little over a year later and have since welcomed Paisley, now age 4, and Jonah, now 2 (as well as two very patient dogs, both around 7). Alex continues to serve actively in the Navy, now stationed in Kittery. Mabel began as the Pastor (Lay Member with Ministerial Standing) of Alfred Parish Church in September 2022. Mabel serves as a Chaplain for Spiritual Care Services of Maine as well as a Chaplain Intern for the Sanford Police Department. She has previously interned with Heritage Heights Continuing Care Retirement Community in Concord, NH and Acton Congregational Church. She also currently serves as the Vice Moderator for the York Association of the Maine Conference and on the board of the UCC’s Mental Health Network. In her free time, Mabel is incredibly grateful for Sanford-Springvale’s Mousam Way and Rail Trail systems, and spends happy hours in the woods.
