Talking Faith and Tasting Food

Eating can be a spiritual experience. We can find God in our feasting and celebrating. We can connect with the Divine and with one another in the stories of our kitchen table, the adventures at restaurants and the gift of take out. We can build up community and connection by sharing recipes and reviews. We can learn about our faith when we tell of the times that Jesus shared a meal and we can taste of the feast and see that God is good.

Jesus shared bread and wine with his friends and we in the Christian faith have been gifted to continue such meal sharing. We pray together, we break together, we pour together and we come together.

And if we are brave in our faith, we talk about the good meal we shared in church! We talk of radical hospitality and of a spirit of abundance. .Jesus knew that we would get hungry. Jesus knew us. He knew how our bodies and our minds work. He knew that our bodies need food, every day. Food gives us energy and life. And , Jesus knew we need the nourishment of love and connection.

Feed the body and feed the spirit.

Justin Pelkey and I hope you’ll accept the invitation to join us at this virtual table and find some food for your body and some faith for your soul. Justin is an aspiring chef who develops great flavors in the kitchen and great relationships everywhere else. I have the privilege to be his church pastor and together we are teaming up to share a little bit of the ingredients of what we know. He is bringing the food reviews and I’ll try to bring a little seasoning of faith. And we hope you’ll find that it is your taste.
